Sam Francis was skilled at preaching to the choir. If those of his persuasion are to reach those who are not even sitting in the pews they will need to talk about racial differences in intelligence, crime, and illegitimacy, and the likely genetic reasons for those differences. This will be dangerous enough, without assuming that there is an unreached public that shares San Francis’ dislike for Martin Luther King and the changes he brought about.
If one feels something strongly one is prone to overestimate the number of people who feel the same way. One is equally likely to underestimate the difficult of converting others to one’s persuasion.
One does not get places in politics by changing people’s minds but by articulating and channeling sentiments that already exist.
Political messages are only effective when they tell people what they know to be true from their own lives, and what they want to believe.
